Eric Parry and Acanthus Clews land RIBA West Midlands Awards

The projects were whittled down from aseven-strong shortlist(see below) that included university projects by Associated Architects and BDP.

RIBA West Midlands jury chair Shauna Bradley, an associate at Glenn Howells Architects, said the five winning buildings demonstrated the “vision and ability” of the West Midlands to respond to present-day challenges at the same time as respecting the ingenuity of the past.

“They are thoughtful in design and result in purposeful spaces which captivate, inspire and comfort their users,” she said.

In addition to the regional awards, the Undercroft Learning Centre project won the RIBA West Midlands Conservation Award, while the dean and chapter of Worcester Cathedral were named RIBA West Midlands Client of the Year.

An overall West Midlands Building of the Year winner will be announced at a ceremony at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place headquarters on 24 May.

The five winners announced today will go forward for consideration for RIBA National Awards. Winners of those accolades make up the pool from which the Stirling Prize shortlist is drawn.
